Amazon is looking for a results-oriented individual to join the AWS Energy Team. In this role, you will support AWS’s infrastructure expansion by working on energy infrastructure projects with utilities and energy companies, and negotiate new power supply contracts across AWS LATAM regions.
This role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to grow AWS’s reliable, diverse, renewable and low-cost energy supply.
The candidate must be able to manage multiple projects across different geographies and evaluate opportunities to reduce energy capital and operating expense.
The candidate will identify and develop energy projects, programs, and initiatives and execute on these projects. The candidate will manage utility interactions, and work with engineering, real estate and planning teams to evaluate data center sites and develop the electric infrastructure to serve those sites.
The candidate will work as part of an integrated team to implement energy program requirements and deliver reliability and cost saving results.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background and a proven track record of developing and then delivering on innovative energy projects within LATAM.
The candidate will have experience working with regulated electric utilities, developing electric infrastructure and / or energy trading in power markets.
The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, product, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of contracts, initiatives and team goals.
By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.
Function Specific Work Activities :
Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs.
Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
Collaborate with the internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy and projects in a timely and accurate fashion.
negotiate new power supply contracts across AWS LATAM.
Support the development and execution of a comprehensive energy and utilities strategy for AWS data centers, including renewable energy
Execute electrical supply contracts that reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon
Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and energy supply.
Responsible for completing due diligence on existing and new region opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
This role requires some international travel (less than 30%).
Bachelor's Degree (BA / BS) required in / Engineering / Business or other technical field
5+ years of experience working in utility / energy industry in a commercial / business development or technical role
Experience developing electric infrastructure projects in a planning or project management role OR experience managing large scale energy procurement contracts
Experience collaborating with external stakeholders to drive projects
Master’s Degree (MBA / MS) preferred
English, Portuguese and Spanish Speaker
The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem solving skills
Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other energy infrastructure
Proven ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts, or evaluating new energy sourcing opportunities and technologies
Familiarity with renewable credit programs, renewable project development, power forecasting and scheduling, portfolio management theory, advanced energy storage, or alternative energy resources
Experience working directly with energy regulators
Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud services
Experience successfully negotiating new tariff rates, power purchase agreements and / or energy infrastructure contracts in regulatory regimes
Strong Bias for Action with an ability to look around corners and deliver results for the business
